There’s not much to say about this event except it’s two days of people jumping off a pier. It’s fantastic fun, and great for photography. The seating on the beach is quite far from the launch point (about 250 metres). So for getting any decent close-up shots you really need a super telephoto. I thought I was pretty cool dragging my 70-400 mm around, but showed me up.

You have three types of competitors–those who have built their own gliders, those who use hang gliders, and finally those who are there to jump in funny costumes for charity.

The sky was hazy, air was sticky, and the sun was harsh. Not ideal light, but it’s always possible to get good photos. Here’s an idea to what it’s like to be a spectator:
